The Plot: |
Water SupplyThe workshop has two large water butts and we have added another one to the potting shed. This is still not sufficient for our watering needs and we may have to look at adding some water butts to the house. The problem here is finding somewhere that we can site them without blocking paths. We had hoped to have a water butt on the greenhouse but having followed the installation instructions there is no slope on the integral gutters to aid drainage. The integral gutters are also way too small so they are not very efficient at gathering water.
The deep bed method of growing (see the section on "Raised Beds") means that water is retained under the bed encouraging the roots to grow downwards. This should in theory mean that we do not need to water as much as we would have had to have done if we were using conventional planting methods. |
